Graham Rattey was born in Hampshire England in 1943 and arrived in Australia in 1967.
He began painting as a child and attended the Salisbury School of Arts during his teenage years. He was influenced by the beauty of the English countryside and the mystery and myth that saturates the area in which he was born. The strongest influences on his work have come from Turner Redon and Dali.
Graham's work has developed from very literal statements about the countryside and the outback to large surrealist works incorporating fascinating expressions of "Time Culture and Symbolism"!
Harry Racine was his first tutor in Australia and he studied with him for 6 years. Graham later attended the Brisbane Institute of Art being tutored by Margaret Fredrickson and Wendy Cernak. He followed this by taking private lessons with Cernak for 5 years at the Crow Studio in Brisbane.
Graham has been a member of the Caloundra Artists Association since 1995 and has a permanent display of his work at Seaview Art Gallery Moffat Beach. Gallery La Tourelle Tanawha, Bold in Gold Maleny, Galloways Gallery Brisbane and Wild Hearts Gallery Buderim also displays his work. He was also a founding member of Artistic Licence Gallery that opened in 2001in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland township of Maleny where he now resides.
In July of 2004 his work was on display for 5 weeks in the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery (by invitation) and was titled "Moving On". The Exhibition displayed 25 paintings and was a resounding success. His work is also represented in private and public collections throughout Australia, England, Ireland, New Zealand and the U.S.A.&
